SHORT SYNOPSIS: Tristan Pasco, the son of a murderous Cornish sea skipper, is abandoned by his father to drown off the coast of Portugal. Captured by the Spanish and flogged nearly to death, his life is saved by Sara, who is in a hellish arranged marriage to a Spanish nobleman. Sara is brought before the Spanish Inquisition and risks being burnt as a witch to help Tristan escape. He returns to Spain in the guise of an English Catholic to spy on Spanish preparations to invade England, and sails with the Spanish Armada.
